Green is where the Heart Is for February 27, 2013

“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”
~Dalai Lama XIV

Eunkyung Kim Cazier was born in South Korea.   As a young girl she drew pictures and journaled.
During high school she concentrated on art and spent countless hours developing her craft.  When she graduated she came to the United States to attend college and immerse herself in the English language.
Although this was quite a feat with English being her second language, her skills and determination excelled and eventually she landed a job in Wilmington, NC where she met her husband and began a family.
Kim’s artwork is colorful and folky.  It invokes the memories of meaningful  experiences.
Her subjects conjure stories of happiness and fun.  Her colorful palette is lighthearted and put together like a quilt, each section thoughtfully playing alongside each other.
Her images seem to sing and birds are often found playing on the minds of the characters.  Most are happy and sing song and give the feeling of free spirits.
You will see the persuasion of her Korean roots in symbols and shapes.  These captivating canvases are a must to peruse.
After visiting her husband’s family in New Mexico, turquoise seduced her and she began making jewelry with a southwest flair.   She says, “My inspiration for Blue Lime Jewelry designs comes from nature, the ocean, and a turquoise trail in the rustic desert where I fell in love with blue lime turquoise.”
Kim is an extraordinary woman with an extra ordinary story.  It is one that is full of her own actions creating happiness.  She has taught classes at Artful Living Group and her students rave about her teaching skills.
Join us in welcoming Eunkyung Kim Cazier to Artful Living Group Thursday March 7th from 6:30 – 8:30pm.  Her paintings will hang in the upper gallery for the month of March.  Join us for “Happiness.”  xo mo
