Green is where the Heart Is for January 8th, 2014

“The trend towards local is not just a trend – it is a necessary component to a healthy economy and healthy living.”  ~ Ian Tostenson: BC Restaurant & Foodservices Association president and CEO

To Our Customers and Artists of Artful Living Group,
As the year draws to an end we all feel compelled to reflect on what has passed and what lies ahead.  The end of 2013 marked the 3rd year for Artful Living Group, which is a milestone for businesses.  We opened the shop in the mist of the economic downturn, managed to survive and grow!
Your support during these three years has contributed not just to growth of the shop but also our community.  We have been able to pay over $175,000 in consignment payments to our artists.
Many of these artists depend on their artwork to support their families.  We paid over $22,000 in state and local taxes, some of which comes back to our community and we have donated over $5,000 to local non-profit groups to help them provide their services.
In addition the three studios housed in the shop, Fishbone Designs, Mo Linquist Living Solutions, and Susie Linquist Photography, have grown and contributed to the community by hiring local sub-contractors, giving donations to non-profits and paying local taxes. We want you to know how far reaching your dollars go when you buy locally and how much we all appreciate it!
Looking forward we have some changes taking place.  Our partner Janet Knott has taken a position with Good Sheppard.
Janet has been vital to shop’s development and will be missed.  But we know she will be with us in spirit and during the first Thursday Gallery Openings! We are excited to announce local Carolina Beach resident and nationally known artist Kristin Gibson has joined us with her studio bringing a fresh and colorful perspective into our upper galleries.
One room upstairs has been dedicated to the work of Gabriel Lehman.  Along with originals, we can now reproduce his images on canvas and printed on paper.  Our art classes will evolved into workshops that are half a day or so with smaller groups to give time for more in-depth projects. Please continue to join us the first Thursday of the month during our artist receptions held upstairs from 6:30-8:30pm.  It is a great way to meet and support our featured artist of the month, enjoy the company of like minded people and we never let you go home hungry. We have signed another three-year contract and look forward to bringing more AMAZING art!  Best wishes for a fabulous 2014,  xo Chris and Mo
