Green is where the Heart Is for January 22, 2014

“Animals that hear high frequencies better than we do--bats and dolphins, for instance--seem to see richly with their ears, hearing geographically, but for us the world becomes most densely informative, most luscious, when we take it in through our eyes.” ~Diane Ackerman

Have you ever been blinded?  My youngest son was about 12 years old when he had an accident that temporarily took away his sight.
He was at a neighbor’s home and they had just returned from vacation where they had purchased fireworks, illegal in our state.  Boys that age are curious and reckless and spontaneous.  I had no idea of the activity until I received the dreaded call.
As I rode to the hospital in the ambulance with him, I prayed out loud and long and remember hearing the paramedic instruct the driver to run it “hot.”  We were terrified and anxious and worried during that whole ordeal.
I could think of nothing else.  Fortunately for us, the miracle happened and his sight was restored as healing ensued.  The blinding was temporary but the memory of that horrific experience was everlasting.
We are being faced in the town of Kure Beach with the issue of seismic airgun testing.  The reason for this would be to determine where to best drill for oil promoted by America’s Energy Forum.
The problem with seismic airgun testing is that it is an unnecessary risk to marine mammals, sea turtles, fish and other ocean wildlife.  It produces a negative impact to our ocean life, which is unavoidable and in my set of principles, morals and values is UNACCEPTABLE.
Join me in rejecting seismic airguns.  I am against offshore drilling. I am FOR protecting marine life.  I have traveled to other countries in the world that support RENEWABLE ENERGY like Offshore Wind.
Let us move towards harnessing this energy and keep our planet intact.  I am for the Triple Bottom Line which produces Profit in consideration of People and Planet. Living Green means learning to live in a world with Sustainable patterns using Renewable Resources.
Living Green teaches us to be Good Stewards.  Living Green calls for Corporate Social Responsibility.  Living green realizes we are all connected in an   Interdependent World.
Please come Monday, January 27th 6:30 pm to Kure Beach Town Hall to voice your opinion on seismic testing.  Wear blue.
We want to show the KB council that we are a blue ocean of citizens opposed to this travesty. Oceana has provided blue shirts to wear if you are against it.
You can pick up your t-shirts at Artful Living Group Tuesday-Saturday 10:30-5. Living Green takes Courage to protect the marine life who cannot protect themselves.  Join me.  xo mo
