Green is where the Heart Is for March 26th, 2014

“Today I am open to the presence of miracles.” ~anonymous

Contributing Writer

It seems most common these days for people to live their life in seasons. When my step-father and brother-in-law got out of school and/or the service 50 or 60 years ago they each worked for the same company till retirement.
Benefits were good then, retirement packages were good and life seemed straight forward and on a path.  Today, however, I find more people living several lifetimes in their 80 or 90 years on this planet and changing not only jobs but careers as well.
Some people dare to burst out of the box experiencing hidden aspects of their authentic selves.
So it was with Cary resident, Shelba King.  Trained as a hair stylist, the day came when her miracle burst open like a bud unfolding as she discovered that which was inside of her was trying to come out.
About 4 years ago a friend of hers said, “Let’s go paint.”  King never considered herself an artist although she always liked to repurpose things.  The illustrative art didn’t do it for her but she liked the process.  She took an online class in creative expression and was given permission to ‘break the rules’ by stepping out of the box and be free.
She connected with her authentic self and says, “No one can copy me and I cannot even copy me because what is inside of me sneaks out to the surface.  I allow to show up whatever shows up.  I was taught to be brave, be bold, be fearless and what shows up as a finished product is the masterpiece of my soul.  It’s original.”
King calls her process Zentuitive as she creates multiple layers ultimately initiating the order of the final image, inviting the viewer to become unexpectedly intrigued and letting the imagination determine the underlying images.
She says it is never too late to discover what may be lying dormant within you.  Come to Artful Living Group on Thursday April 3rd 6:30-8:30 as we welcome her as our featured artist for April.  Refreshments will be served as you closely observe her work.  You will be intrigued with this creativity seeker and Zentuitive Artist™.
