New Hanover County Middle and High School Students Selected for All-State Band

Students from New Hanover County Schools’ middle and high school bands traveled to East Davidson High School in Thomasville, NC, earlier this month to audition for the All-State Band. During the auditions, each student had to perform a solo, seven to eight scales, and a sight reading piece for state judges.  Seven NHCS students were selected for the prestigious state band based on their audition scores. 
The chosen student musicians and their directors are as follows: Williston Middle School: Gwen Wilson, Band Director and Shaffer Lisle, Alto Saxophone; Ashley High School: Robert Parker, Band Director, John Hare-Grogg, Trombone and Steven Lease, Clarinet; Hoggard High School: Rod Reed, Band Director, Allison Flowers, Clarinet and Ryan Hardison, Clarinet; New Hanover High School: R. Timothy McCoy, Band Director, Adam Chandler, Clarinet, and David Puritz, Bass Clarinet The selected students will now travel to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to participate in the All-State Band Clinic and Concert, May 4 – 6, 2012.
