The Annual Island of Lights Fashion Show was a splash hit on Saturday, March 31 at the American Legion Post No. 129 in Carolina Beach despite the rain. They sold out of the 100 tickets available at $22 each. The event raised around $2,800 for the annual Island of Light activities, which take place between Thanksgiving and New Years on Pleasure Island.
The Island of Lights Fashion Show showcased island fashions from three locally owned and operated clothing stores. Island Colors, touché and Unique Boutique all carry unique and trendy clothing lines that delight many locals and visitors.
There are no cookie-cutter styles at any of these boutiques. Thyme Savor Catering provided lunch and Marshall’s Gardens provided custom designed floral arrangements for the tables. Over 70 area businesses donated goods and services for door prizes and auction items, making the 2012 Island of Lights Fashion Show a great success.
The festivities of Island of Lights have offered a great economic boost to local businesses in the past during the off-season and delight children of all ages. The annual festivities kick off with the Lighting at the Lake Ceremony in Carolina Beach, followed by the Island of Lights Christmas Parade, the Island of Lights Flotilla, the Tour of Homes, and finally wraps up with the New Year’s Eve Celebration complete with fireworks. Pleasure Island will usher in 2013 in Kure Beach.
