Aquarium Open July 4 Holiday

Visitors on a Behind the Scenes Tour observe jellyfish propogation.

Kure Beach, NC – The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is open regular hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 4. Animal feedings, live animal encounters and dive presentations in the Cape Fear Shoals exhibit at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. are among several programs free with admission offered daily. This includes a touch pool feeding at 11 a.m. and Hidden Hunters at 3 p.m. Additional programs offered throughout the weekend are listed below. Pre-registration is required and can be made by visiting ncaquariums.com/fort-fisher.
THURSDAY 7/4
• Behind the Scenes at 11:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Fee: $15 for ages 13 and older, $13 for ages 8-12; admission included. Wonder what goes on behind the scenes at the Aquarium? Animal holding, husbandry, life support systems and access to exhibits are hidden behind the aquarium walls. Accompany staff on a guided tour of animal quarantine, life support, food preparation and access areas.
FRIDAY 7/5
• Behind the Scenes at 11:15 a.m. Fee: $15 for ages 13 and older, $13 for ages 8-12; admission included. Wonder what goes on behind the scenes at the Aquarium? Animal holding, husbandry, life support systems and access to exhibits are hidden behind the aquarium walls. Accompany staff on a guided tour of animal quarantine, life support, food preparation and access areas.
• Extended Behind the Scenes at 2 p.m. Fee: $20 for ages 13 and older, $18 for ages 8-12. Aquarium admission included. It’s feeding time, and you’re invited to watch. Visit the top of our largest exhibit, the Cape Fear Shoals, during an expanded tour behind the scenes. Aquarists feed sharks and schooling fish during the tour, offering a unique opportunity for close-up viewing.
SATURDAY 7/6
 • Canoeing the Salt Marsh at 9 a.m. Fee: $25 for ages 8 and older. A 3-hour exploration of the Zeke’s Island Estuarine Research Reserve by canoe. Activities may include crabbing, seining or birding. Participant should be able to swim, be capable of sustained physical exertion and wear closed-toe shoes.
• Behind the Scenes at  11:15 a.m. Fee: $15 for ages 13 and older, $13 for ages 8-12; admission included. Wonder what goes on behind the scenes at the Aquarium? Animal holding, husbandry, life support systems and access to exhibits are hidden behind the aquarium walls. Accompany staff on a guided tour of animal quarantine, life support, food preparation and access areas.
• Aquarist Apprentice at 2 p.m. Ages: 10 and up; Ages 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult Fee: $25.00 for ages 13 and up, $23.00 for ages 10-12; Aquarium admission included. Check out a dirty job you’re sure to love. Join staff on a behind-the-scenes tour and learn about Aquarium animals, what they eat, how they live, and how to care for them. Then, assist aquarists with food preparation and help feed the animals.
SUNDAY 7/7

NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher is located a short drive from Wilmington south of Kure Beach, on US 421. The site is less than a mile from the Fort Fisher ferry terminal. Hours: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day). Admission: $8 adults ages 13-61; $7 62 and older; $6 ages 3-12.
