Kure Beach, NC- As families gather for feasting and Thanksgiving, many will look for affordable activities to do together. The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher offers an alternative to the holiday shopping frenzy. The Aquarium is open during normal business hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the holiday week, with the exception of Thanksgiving Day. The Aquarium will be closed on Thursday, November 28 and will reopen at 9 a.m. Friday, November 29.
Free daily programs offered with Aquarium admission include two daily dive programs at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Times for additional feedings, live animal presentations and more can be found at ncaquariums.com/fort-fisher.
The Aquarium offers an Extended Behind the Scenes Tour to watch sharks and schooling fish take part in their own feast on Friday, Nov. 29. Tickets for the 2 p.m. tour are $18 for ages 8 to 12, and $20 for ages 13 and older. Aquarium admission is included. Preregistration at the ncaquarium.com/fort-fisher or 910.458.7468 is required.
Behind the Scenes tours also run at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher is located 15 miles south of Wilmington in Kure Beach, on U.S. 421. The site is less than a mile from the Fort Fisher ferry terminal. Hours: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily (closed Thanksgiving and Christmas days). Admission: $8, ages 13-61; $7, ages 62 and older; $6, ages 3-12.
