Tara Robert and Taylor Edwards of Ashley High School have received the National Silver Award from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for their achievement in visual arts by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Scholastic Art Awards is the country's longest-running and most prestigious award and recognition program for creative teenagers.
Mentored by Ashley High School art teacher, Angela Hewitt, Tara and Taylor have been identified by panels of professional artists to be among the most talented young artists in the nation. This year, 200,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Only the top 1,500 were recognized at the national level. These students have been invited to attend a ceremony at the world-famous Carnegie Hall on June 1st and to participate in a number of showcase events at Parsons: The New School for Design in New York City. The graduating seniors are now eligible for $5 million in scholarships from more than 60 colleges, universities and art institutes across the country.
