Boy Scout Gulf Stream Open Fishing Tournament Reels In Local Anglers May 10th-12th

The Boy Scout Gulf Stream Open, an offshore fishing tournament to raise money for the Boy Scouts of America, will cast fisherman from throughout the Carolinas in a competition for prizes and a good cause. The tournament features three days of fishing from May 10-12 at Wrightsville Beach, with winners earning trophies and potential prize money through optional competitions.  Competitors will fish two of the three days of the competition. Fishing is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, with weigh-ins from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The final weigh-in will be at 7 p.m. May 12 at the Wrightsville Beach Yacht Club, with the awards ceremony to follow. Full tournament guidelines and registration forms are available at
This event will have such a great impact for the Boy Scouts, said Doug Clevenger, Scout Executive for the Boy Scouts Cape Fear Council. “We are proud to be associated with the tournament, which we expect to generate a lot of interest now and in the years to come.” The mandatory entry fee is $1,000 per boat, with all proceeds benefitting the Boy Scouts of America.  Other levels of optional competition with cash payouts include $700 per boat for most billfish points, $300 for most meat fish points, and $500 for a winner-take-all most overall points competition.
The festivities begin May 9 at 6 p.m. with a Captain?s meeting, dinner and silent auction at the Lumina Hall. Individual tickets for that event can be purchased for $30 or $50 for two. Sponsors of the event include Liberty Healthcare, Atlantic Packaging, and The Campbell Group. Sponsorships are available for the tournament for $200 up to $5,000.
