This past week Carol Clawson of the Sea Oats Garden club held a lecture in the outdoor classroom. Each class that participated learned about the everyday maintenance of the area including watering, pruning and composting. The courtyard or outdoor classroom started 5 years ago after Carolina Beach Elementary School received major renovations and expansion. The area has been maintained by the Sea Oats Garden Club, parents and students. It consists of drought resistant plants, succulents and natives. In addition there are plants that attract both butterflies and hummingbirds. The garden is completely self-sufficient producing its own compost and collecting water through rain barrels. For more information about Carolina Beach’s “Sea Oats Garden Club”, please contact club president, Carol Clawson at 313-1444.
The club is open to new members who seek interest in home gardening and beautification of the community.
