14th Annual Cape Fear Disabled Fishing Tournament

This years Disabled Fishing Tournament was every bit of the success it has been in years past.  Plenty of fish were caught along with a good time, which produced hundreds of smiles and laughter that was shared by everyone involved with the tournament.
“It’s a great opportunity for everyone to come out and enjoy themselves while fishing. Several different types of fish were caught which include spadefish, spot, pinfish, croker, whiting, sand perch, flounder, blowfish, herring, pig fish, skate, bluefish, black bass, black drum, sea trout, and others. The morning started out perfect with pristine fishing weather! McDonalds supplied sausage biscuits and Britt’s came in with their famous donuts during breakfast for everyone involved to keep their bellies full. Volunteers were out on the pier as well helping people that had trouble with their fishing poles or just wanted to hold a friendly conversation. Disabled citizens from all walks of life were able to enjoy themselves all day long thanks to the help from the Got Em On Club, sponsors, and volunteers. This years sponsors include: the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce, Fisherman’s Post, Britt’s Donuts, the Kure Beach Pier, Riverside Repair, Town of Kure Beach’s Police and Fire Departments, Budweiser, McDonalds, No Sweat Air Conditioning Service Inc., Coca-Cola, Executive Arms Academy, Port City Java, In Memory of Jim Tunajek, Flaming Amy’s, Specialty Engraving, Mark & Luanne LaBlanc, the Island Gazette, Bame Hardware, Learning Perspectives, the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, Lazy Pirate A&G BBQ, Paula M. Colman Bail Bonding and Bowman Realty & Insurance Company.
“I’d like to give a sincere thank you to all the volunteers, sponsors, contestants, friends, and supporters for the 14th annual CFDSFT. Thank you for making this incredible event happen. All 295+ contestants had a great time thanks to you. This event is a huge undertaking but flows well and goes well only with your support and effort. You have made so many people have a great day and I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart,” explained Dawson Freuler. President of the club John Batson stated, “Many thanks to all the volunteers, especially The Kure Beach Pier, Dawson Freuler, Rick Donna Sloan, Alan Votta, Marc Leblanc, and others. Without your help and participation, it would never have been such a success! “Congratulations to Vickie Barrett of Holly Ridge on the winning of the Playhouse!
