Joseph Harty, member of Boy Scout Troop 274 was awarded the coveted rank of Eagle Scout, on May 11, during an Eagle Scout Court of Honor.
Joseph earned a total of 35 merit badges; including 12 Eagle required merit badges. In the summer of 2011, Joseph earned his BSA Scout Lifeguard. His Eagle Scout Project was planning, designing, and leading the building of a pergola for his church. Presently, he serves at his troop’s Chaplin Aid and has held numerous other leadership positions with his troop and currently leads a 6th grade boy’s small group at his church.
The young man is a rising junior at Eugene Ashley High School where he runs both varsity Cross Country & Track, and a member of the following groups: Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Latin Club and the Young Christian Leaders Club. Joseph is the son of Don & Diane Harty of Wilmington. He plans to attend college upon graduation. “Joesph always works hard weather he is training for Cross Country or Track, Scouts, or in the classroom and he is a pleasure to Coach”, according to his Cross Country Coach Shawn McKee.
