Nourish NC has received $3,500 from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation. Nourish NC will use the gift to purchase food for their Backpack program. “On behalf of the volunteers, the community and the children we feed, I would like to thank The Food Lion Charitable Foundation and our Carolina Beach Food Lion for making a significant investment in the community,” said Kim Karslake the Executive Director/ Nourish NC. “We are a grassroots organization dedicated to reducing food insecurity among children. It is our firm belief that investing in a child’s future unites a community and brings about positive change necessary to interrupt the cycle of poverty.” Nourish NC became a 501(c)3 non-profit and now provides weekend meals for more than 190 children in New Hanover County schools. The organization also provides weekend food for the long holiday and summer breaks. Established in 2001, the Food Lion Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $9 million in grants.
