Free athletic screening examinations are being offered to New Hanover County Schools athletes and cheerleaders by physicians in the New Hanover-Pender County Medical Society in conjunction with the New Hanover County Health Department and NHCS. All North Carolina students who plan to participate in athletics or cheerleading during the 2013-14 school year must undergo a state-mandated screening examination.
Exams for girls will be Thursday, May 23, 2013. Boys’ exams will be held Thursday, June 6, 2013. Both screening sessions will be held at the New Hanover County Health Department located at 2029 South 17th Street, Wilmington, NC. These will be the ONLY free exam dates for 2013-2014 school sports. Parents should be advised that the exams are a screening for athletics only and not a complete physical examination. Students should report to the NHC Health Department at the following dates and times: Girls’ Exams - Thursday, May 23rd at 6:00 p.m. at Williston, Holly Shelter, New Hanover, Myrtle Grove, Roland-Grise and Hoggard; 6:45 p.m. at Noble, Laney, Trask, Private Schools, Ashley, Murray and DC Virgo; Boys’ Exams - Thursday, June 6th at 6:00pm at Williston, Holly Shelter, New Hanover, Myrtle Grove, Roland-Grise and Hoggard; 6:45PM at Noble, Laney, Trask, Private Schools, Ashley, Murray and DC Virgo.
Rising ninth graders should list the high school that they will attend in the fall.
Students do not need to arrive more than 15 minutes early. They will be called in by school in the order listed.
