The Pleasure Island Parrot Heads visited the Betty H. Cameron Women and Children's Hospital on Saturday July 27th for their second annual Christmas In July. The Parrot Heads were able to raise over $1,700 thanks to the generosity of tourists and residents who put their pocket change in the donation jars around Pleasure Island, Monkey Junction, and Downtown Wilmington.
The Parrot heads purchased many items for the kids in the hospital, ranging from rattles and toys for infants, to various toys for the older children. Many items were also purchased to re-stock the playroom. Coloring books, crayons, board games, puzzle books, DVD's and X-box 360 games were just a few of the many items purchased for the playroom. Santa came dressed for the summer wearing red shorts, a tropical shirt, and sandals.
The Parrot Heads joined Santa with passing out the gifts for the kids. Santa was quoted as saying “We brightened the day for many children and helped to put a smile on the faces of their parents.”
The Parrot Heads also want to give a special thank you for the generous donations made by the Southern Costal Woman’s Club and the Kure Beach Pier, along with the following businesses that participated with displaying the donation jars: Primrose Cottage, WINGS Beach Stores (Carolina Beach,) Gulf Stream Restaurant, Charlie's Boardwalk Subs & Pub, Frank’s Pizza, Southern Digital Art, Lazy Pirate, OCEAN Beach Store, Carolina Beach Convenience Store, Island Hots - Hot Dogs, Squigley's Ice Cream Gift Shop, Kure Beach Diner, Domino's Pizza (Carolina Beach,) Subway (Carolina Beach,) Zaak Grill, Fuzzy Peach (Carolina Beach & Monkey Junction,) Papa Murphy's (Carolina Beach Rd.,) Trolly Stop Hot Dogs (Fountain Dr.,) American Legion Post 129, Poodles Island Wear (Wilmington,) - Han Dee Hugos (Monkey Junction,) Seaview Crab Co.
