This past Thursday, October 17th several are residents gathered at the Carolina Beach Lake to honor Mr. Charlie Grissom. Charlie passed away in April of 2013, he was well known and loved by anyone involved in volunteer and municipal work in Carolina Beach as well as most residents. He is remembered for his passion to make Carolina Beach "a better place to live". He worked tirelessly supporting fundraisers for the Carolina Beach Lifeguard Program. Pastor Shawn Blackwelder of St. Pauls United Methodist Church conducted the service that was greeted by beautiful weather and the sharing of great memories of Charlie.
Charlie always had a "vision" of what would enhance life on Carolina Beach. I remember having several conversations with Charlie about a Golf Course in US Army "Buffer Zone" on the west side of Dow Road. Had 9/11 not occurred, it could have possibly been a reality. This is one of many of Charlie's visions.
To honor Charlie for his dedication to Carolina Beach, there will be a memorial dedication on October 17, 2013 at 11:00 am. at Carolina Beach Lake next to the paddleboats. Pastor Shawn Blackwelder of St. Pauls United Methodist Church will be conducting the service.
