New Hanover County Schools Announces 2012-2013

New Hanover County Schools (NHCS) announces the state release of the 2012-2013 end-of-grade and end-of-course test results. These new Ready assessment results also include the complete accountability model measures that are part of the Common Core standards implemented in the 2012-2013 school year.
“As in previous times when the tests have been renormed, we have experienced an initial dip in our results. It is important to understand that the new assessments have more difficult standards that the students were measured against. Our results indicate student growth, and in the future, test scores will show an upward trend,” said Dr. Markley, regarding the drop in test scores.
The standards and new assessments were implemented for the first time in North Carolina in the 2012-2013 school year. It is important to note that students continued to grow academically in 2012-2013, even though the tougher achievement standards will show fewer students meeting the proficiency standard. These new scores simply mean that students are expected to demonstrate a higher level of learning than ever before.
“New Hanover County Schools is committed to a rigorous and comprehensive plan to improve educational outcomes for all students, close achievement gaps, increase equity, and improve the quality of instruction, so that students are prepared for success in postsecondary education and the workforce,” said Dr. Markley.
Schools will distribute individual student results to parents in mid-November.
