International performing artist Bridgid Bibbens is bringing the groundbreaking music education program Electrify Your Strings! (EYS) to Murray Middle School. This exciting event will transform the student musicians into a full-fledged rock orchestra!
Bridgid will be performing with the students on her handcrafted hot pink 7-string fretted electric Viper violin as part of the 2013 Electrify Your Strings! “Dream Tour” on Thursday, February 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the Minnie Evans Arts Center. The audience will be entertained by exciting arrangements of contemporary pop music plus selections by Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and more. When asked about Bridgid’s upcoming visit, Orchestra Director Laura Black said, “We are so excited to have Bridgid come back and work with us again. The students already enjoy playing their instruments, but Bridgid is able to bring a whole new level of excitement and passion to my classroom!”
To prepare for this concert, Bridgid will be focusing the students not only on the material, but on improvisation and personal expression on their violins, violas, cellos and basses. Utilizing music arrangements that were sent to the district prior to this visit, Murray Middle School orchestra students will perform in a live concert alongside Ms. Bibbens, open to the public with all profits going to the school music programs.
The event will be held on Thursday, February 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the Minnie Evans Arts Center located at 605 Halyburton Memorial Pkwy in Wilmington, NC 28412. Ticket Information: $5 in advance; $7 at the door; $10 VIP section. Contact: Laura Black at 910-232-6473 or laura.black@ nhcs.net
