Kure Beach Community Center Upcoming Events For May 16, 2012

Kure Beach Parks & Recreation Yoga Classes Began May 9th

Parks & Recreation has announced that Vinyasa Yoga Flow classes will be held at the Kure Beach Community Center. The 10-week session will take place from May 9 through July 25. The class instructor Jennifer Fenton, RYT, is Yoga Alliance Certified. The session costs $65 per person, and classes will be held every Wednesday night from 7:15-8:15 pm. Also, fill out a Parks & Recreation registration form and bring it along with your payment of $65 to the first class. Checks should be made payable to Town of Kure Beach. You will also need to bring a yoga mat, towel and water bottle to each class.

Tennis Events on June 2nd & 3rd

• Kids Tennis Carnival - On June 2nd from 10:30am- 12:30pm Parks & Recreation Tennis will have a FREE tennis carnival for kids aged 6-10 years old; perfect for the beginning tennis player! It will be held during the Kure Beach Summer SportsFest at the Joe Eakes Park tennis courts, located at 7th & K Avenues in Kure Beach. To register, go to www.PleasureIslandTennis.info. • Men’s 8.0 Combo Tournament - On June 2nd & 3rd, beginning at 12:30 pm, Set-Up Events will hold a men’s 8.0 combo tournament during the Kure Beach Summer SportsFest. The event will be held at the Joe Eakes Park tennis courts. Registration is $25/player. Please sign up as an individual and note your partner’s name. Both partners MUST register. Register at www.setupevents.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=event_detail&eventID=2205 Online registration closes on May 30th at 12:30 pm. USTA membership is NOT required. Matches will be best 2 out of 3 sets with 10-pt tie breaker in lieu of 3rd set. 1st round losers feed into consolidation draw. Draw will be posted by 5pm on May 31st. Kure Beach Parks & Rec Classes

Information about Parks & Recreation classes can be found on the town’s website at www.townofkurebeach.org. Access the Parks & Recreation webpage under TOWN VENUES. Below, is basic information on classes:
• CHILDREN’S DANCE CLASSES (ages 7 to 14) – Wednesdays from 4-5pm for Classic Ballet and from 5-6pm for Jazz Dance at the Kure Beach Community Center. Cost is $40 per month. Call the instructor at 512-6607 for more information and to register.
• WATERCOLOR CLASSES BEGIN MARCH 14 - Ken Withrow, awarding winning artist and Kure Beach resident, is offering watercolor classes at the Kure Beach Community xCenter beginning Wednesday, March 14. Beginner class is held from 9:30-11:30 am and Intermediate class is held from 12:30-2:30 pm.
The 4-week sessions cost $30 per person. Register and pay at the first class. A list of supplies needed for these classes is available on this website under “Town Venues>Parks & Rec>Watercolor Class,” or you can obtain the list at Town Hall.
• OPERATIONS MEDICINE DROP “TAKE BACK” EVENT ON MARCH 24 - Prescription poisoning is on the rise in North Carolina. Operation Medicine Drop's "Take Back" event helps prevent accidental poisonings and drug abuse while protecting our waters. Please bring any prescription or over-the-counter medicines that you are no longer using or that have expired to the Kure Beach Police Department on Saturday, March 24 between the hours of 10 am and 1 pm. • TENNIS LESSONS – Youth and Adult tennis lessons are held on Mondays & Tuesdays for 5-week sessions. Town Hall is no longer accepting pre-registrations. You must access www.pleasureislandtennis.info to see lesson start dates and times and to register online. Payment is due at the first lesson. For questions not answered on the website, call the instructor at 200-4101. Kure Beach Parks & Recreation Advisory Board meets at Kure Beach Town Hall on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. Meetings are open to the public and all interested persons are encouraged to attend.

The Kure Beach Community Center Committee meets every month on the second Tuesday at 10:00 AM, (excluding Nov & Dec). All Residents of Kure Beach are welcome to attend.
