Kure Beach Community Center Events for July 18, 2012

Weekly Activities:
EXERCISE: Tuesday from 9-10 AM October-May
Fee is $1.00 per person. No registration-Just show up!
LINE DANCE: Thursday from 10-11 AM September-May
Fee is $1.00 per person. No registration-Just show up!
AIKIDO: Tuesday and Thursday. Children 6-7 PM and

The Kure Beach Community Center Committee meets every month on the second Tuesday at 10:00 AM, (excluding Nov & Dec). All Residents of Kure Beach are welcome to attend. We would love to have your input! Also, the Community Center is available to rent for your special event. Call 458-8944 and leave a message. Someone will return your call promptly.

Annual Barbecue on August 18th

The Kure Beach Community Center Committee will hold their annual summer barbecue on Saturday, August 18th from 4:00 -8:00 pm, or until the food runs out. Our Community Center is located at 118 3rd Avenue, behind Big Daddy’s Restaurant. Pulled pork barbecue provided by Middle of the Island Catering and cole slaw provided by Big Daddy’s Restaurant will be served. Other menu items include buttered parsley potatoes, baked beans, iced tea and rolls. Last but not least, you can choose a luscious, dessert to top off your meal. Tickets are $8.00 at the door. Take out plates are available or sit right down at a table and enjoy a great meal with your family, friends and neighbors. SUMMER TENNIS LESSONS

The following Sunday evening tennis sessions will begin July 8 and August 26 and are open to anyone 12 years or older: 5-6pm Beginners; 6-7pm 2.5-3.5 (NTRP rating); 7-8pm will open if earlier classes are full. This program is taught by PTR Pro Susan Kight.  Susan's classes were very popular the first time around, so advance sign-up is the way to guarantee your spot.
The following weekday tennis sessions will begin on July 30/31. This session will be for 4 weeks and the fees will be prorated. This program is taught by PTR Recreational Coach, Billie Fitzsimons. Junior Schedule (weekday): 5-7 year olds Monday 9:15-0am; 8+ years Tuesday 9-10am; 10+ year Monday 10-11:30am (this class by invite only.  Email Billie before registering. This class is for juniors that can already play tennis. These juniors will be trying out for and/or playing on their school teams.) Adult (weekday) classes: Monday 6pm 2.5 - 3.5; Monday 7pm Beginner; Tuesday 10-11am 2.5 - 3.5; Tuesday 11-Noon Beginner; and Tuesday 6-7pm 2.5 - 3.5.

Save Dates for Bus Trips

Mark your calendar for more great bus trips, organized by Paula Withrow from Kure Beach Parks & Recreation.
• FALL – Tuesday, October 30th we’ll be going to Raleigh to visit the Farmer’s Market, where you can shop and get lunch before going on a guided tour of the special art show at the North Carolina Art Museum titled “Visual Feast: Masterpieces of Still Life from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.” The bus will leave Town Hall at 8:30 am and return by approximately 6:30 pm. The total cost of the bus trip, including bus fare, art show and driver tip, will be $39.00 per person. We’ll begin taking reservations some time around the end of August, so stay tuned!
•    FOR THE HOLIDAYS – Tuesday, December 4th we’ll be going to Myrtle Beach for “The South’s Grandest Christmas Show” at the Alabama Theatre. You can shop and get lunch at Barefoot Landing before being taken to the afternoon performance at the theatre. The bus will leave Town Hall at 8:30 am and return by approximately 6:30 pm. The total cost of the bus trip, including bus fare, show and driver tip, will be $46.00 per person. Reservations will be taken beginning in mid-October.
•    SPRING 2013 – We’re looking into prices for an overnight trip to Monticello, the former home of Thomas Jefferson in Virginia. We’ll give you more details later in the year, but we wanted to give you a heads up on future plans. In the meantime, be thinking about whether or not you’d consider going if the price is right.

The Kure Beach Parks & Rec. Advisory Board meets at Kure Beach Town Hall on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. Meetings are open to the public and all interested persons are encouraged to attend.
