Thalian Association, the Official Community Theater of North Carolina, presents the Wilmington premiere of Dolly Parton’s Tony nominated musical 9 to 5. The production, directed by Mike Thompson with music direction by Amanda Hunter and choreography by Mary Beth Henderson, runs September 27-October 7 at historic Thalian Hall; Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 3pm. $25 with senior, student and group discounts. For tickets 910/632.2285; etix.com; thalian.org. The movie was released in 1980 and went on to become one of the most popular films of all time. The hilarious cautionary tale of female empowerment and revenge in the workplace struck a chord, not only with women but with anyone who loves to laugh. The musical has been brought to rollicking life by Dolly Parton, who wrote the Tony-nominated score, and original screenwriter, Patricia Resnick. Thalian’s premiere stars Heather Setzler, Mary Beth Redman and Beth Swindell in the roles made famous by Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda. Timothy A. Mills plays their sexist, egotistical nemesis.
