The Island of Lights Christmas Parade will be this Friday, November 30th at 7:30 PM on Lake Park Boulevard in Carolina Beach. This year’s Grand Marshall for the Parade is Tony Silvagni. He is the 2011 ISA World Longboard Champion, 2011 Association of Surfing Professional Japan Pro Longboard Champion, Gold Medalist for the USA Surf Team, and 6th in the world on the Association of Surfing Professional World Longborad Tour. Tony has always strived to serve as a good role model and positive example to those around him. He has organized four charity surf contests in Carolina Beach to bring awareness and fundraising for Lyme Disease. The Parade will proceed from Atlanta Avenue down Lake Park Boulevard to the Federal Point Plaza. Floats, bands and Santa Clause will be there to add to the festivities of the Season and provide a night of entertainment for families. Please arrive early, as the bridge construction is sure to cause traffic delays.
On Saturday, December 1st this year’s Christmas Flotilla will begin at 6pm, fishing boats and pleasure crafts electrically decorated with thousands of lights present a spectacular display on the Intracoastal Waterway. They cruise from Snow's Cut to the Carolina Beach Boat Basin and back. The boats compete for prizes and add to the wonderful holiday spirit. A panel of judges will be on hand to pick the winners. Mark your calendar for the final Island of Lights event to be held December 31st. This will be their Annual New Year’s Eve Celebration held in Kure Beach. Don't miss the giant lighted beach ball being dropped at midnight followed by a spectacular fireworks demonstration. This free family-friendly event will feature a DJ and dancing with refreshments available for purchase.
