Want to know what films will be shot in Wilmington? Want to voice your opinion about environmental issues? Want to know more about downtown development? Want to be “in the know” about what really makes Wilmington the great city that it is as well as what major challenges we are facing right now? For answers to those questions and more, come to the Adult Scholars Leadership Program (ASLP) which is offered only once every year through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UNCW.
Immerse yourself in an intensive study of the Wilmington area: the economy, the environment, local and state political issues, health care and education systems, regional growth and development, history of the Cape Fear Region, and cultural arts. In its third decade, this stellar program engages participants with community leaders, such as the mayor, city council members, state legislators, Screen Gems executives, leading economists and environmentalists, law enforcement and safety personnel, WHQR personalities, UNCW professors and administrators, school board members, the USS North Carolina Battleship captain, and the directors of the Wilmington Symphony and Thalian Hall.
Facilitated by more than 75 top leaders, experts, and policymakers in the region, Adult Scholars are inspired throughout the dynamic six-day program to understand and become involved in their community. The Adult Scholars program has provided nearly 600 graduates an in-depth study of this rich region as well as the opportunity to connect with others and form lasting friendships. Graduates enjoy the additional benefit of continuing this learning experience and enjoying these relationships through membership in the Adult Scholars Leadership Alumni Association. The program for 2013 features six (6) consecutive day sessions beginning February 27th and ending on March 6th (Wed, Thu, Fri – Mon, Tue, Wed). Classes meet daily from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Madeline Suites in Wagoner Hall on the UNCW campus. The sessions also include morning coffee/tea and a catered lunch.
