This Week on Pleasure Island

9 year-old Jasmine Trillizio snapped this at last Thursday’s Fireworks by the Sea.

Pleasure Island has another great week of FREE activities for your vacationing and leisure-time fulfillment. There is always something for everyone on our little slice of paradise. Please plan on joining us for Thursday nights’ FREE concert on August 1st from 6:30 until 9:30 featuring local favorite DOGS Ave.
And don’t forget to stay for our fantastic Fireworks show at 9:00 pm (weather permitting). Come join your family and friends at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk for a night of FREE fun, music and fireworks.
The following night, Thee Town of Kure Beach will be presenting “Magic and Music” at the Kure Beach Ocean Front Park from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.
Don’t forget about Family Night every Tuesday at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk from 6:30-8:30, followed by Cash BINGO at the Gazebo Stage from 7:00-9:00 on Wednesday evenings. Let’s not forget, the very popular Carolina Beach Farmer’s Market held every Saturday from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Carolina Beach Lake.
Also, in case you haven’t heard, Kure Beach Oceann Front Park is offering Monday evening Turtle Talks with the Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Project from 7-8 pm; Kure Beach Open Air Market on Tuesdays from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm; Thursday mornings Story Time By The Sea from 10:00 – 11:30 am, Saturday DJ Night featuring Jolly Mon Da from 7:00 – 9:00 pm and then the ever-popular Boogie In The Park featuring Rock, Funk, Pop & Metal selections from Milenia Funk’n Band.
To close out the week on Sunday, August 4th, the movie at the Carolina Beach Lake will be the highly acclaimed, animated “Escape From Planet Earth” featuring the voices of Brendan Fraser, Jessica Alba and Sarah Jessica Parker. The showing will be at 8:45 pm at the Carolina Beach Lake at the corner of South Lake Park Boulevard and Atlanta Avenue. All movies are weather-dependent, so be sure to call ahead (910-458-8434), if the weather seems threatening to make sure the show will go on. These films are free and open to the public. Popcorn, candy, soft drinks, cotton candy and other popular concessions are available at reasonable prices. This is a true summer time treat for adults and kids alike.
The 3D animated family comedy catapults moviegoers to planet Baab where admired astronaut Scorch Supernova (Brendan Fraser) is a national hero to the blue alien population. A master of daring rescues, Scorch pulls off astonishing feats with the quiet aid of his nerdy, by-the-rules brother, Gary (Rob Corddry), head of mission control at BASA.
When BASA's no-nonsense chief Lena (Jessica Alba) informs the brothers of an SOS from a notoriously dangerous planet, Scorch rejects Gary's warnings and bounds off for yet another exciting mission.
