Carolina Beach Dragon Boat Regatta and Festival Building Up to A Big Event October 25th & 26th

The first Annual Carolina Beach Dragon Boat Regatta and Festival is scheduled for October 25 and 26, 2013 on the harbor and is hosted by the Town of Carolina Beach, Got-em-on Live Bait Club, and Carolina Beach Fire Department.  This event brings together sports, health and wellness, and arts to celebrate our island community.  Proceeds from this event will go directly to the Carolina Beach Volunteer Fire Department and the Got-Em-On-Live-Bait Club to help fund the club’s annual Disabled Sportsman’s Fishing Tournaments. Over 12 teams that include at least 20 members have signed up to participate in the regatta.  Many activities are scheduled to make this a fun day for everyone.
The Carolina Beach Fire Department will be holding their annual barbecue fundraiser and will be selling barbecue plates, sides, and desserts.
The BBQ is an annual event that's become a local tradition.   It has been held since the department was founded  around 40 years ago.   The firefighters cook all the food and serve their famous BBQ Pulled Pork, sauced with their secret sauce!!!
“The BBQ can be had by the plate, by the sandwich, or by the pint for take-home & family consumption. We also serve baked beans, homemade coleslaw, & fresh hush puppies.   Don't fill up on the BBQ though because we also offer all different kinds of delicious desserts and treats, baked exclusively by fireman's wives & girlfriends. “, said Zach Sblendorio, firefighter.
This year, the department will offer two different styles of T-shirts for sale, which are solely focused around the fire department.  All proceeds of the event go to Carolina Beach Fireman's Association which is a non-profit organization that helps pay for uniforms, Emergency Response Gear, Vehicle Outfit, Fire Training, Local Firemen's Relief, and many other local charities that come to the department in their time of need.
The Island Women organization has fun activities for children in the Kids Tent, and the Got-em-on Live Bait Club will host the beer tent where bands will be playing all day Saturday.  The festival will have vendors that include health and wellness providers, artists, and sporting groups.
Team Practice runs on the dragon boats with coaching will be held on Friday, October 25th from 3:00PM to 6:30PM.  The Regatta and Festival begin at 8:30am on Saturday, October 26th.
There are still vendor spaces and room for a few more boat teams.
