Carolina Beach May Have No Authority To Ban Smoking On Beach

The Town of Carolina Beach may not be the owners of their beachfront and therefore be unable to enact a ban on smoking on the beach.


Smoking Ban Not Likely In Carolina Beach; Poll Shows Support

The Carolina Beach Town Council was informed earlier this week they do not have legal authority to ban smoking on the beach. The Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing on a proposed ban on August 14.


Kure Beach Addresses $240 Triathlon Invoice Dispute

The Town of Kure Beach received numerous emails from the public asking them not to jeopardize the future of the Kure Beach Double Sprint Triathlon which just held it's 15th annual event in June. The Town responded Friday issuing a statement via email.


It's Periwinkle, Not Periwwkle Lane

This Carolina Beach street sign has some residents laughing. It's the sign for Periwinkle Lane at the intersection with Carolina Beach Avenue North on the North End. The sign at the other end of the street is spelled correctly.  Typically people correct typos. But this one keeps on delivering the laughs.

UPDATE: Body Of Missing Swimmer at Snows Cut Recovered

Update: Monday August 6: The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office along with additional emergency
response agencies have located the body of the missing 13 year old boy from Snow's Cut near the Carolina Beach State Park.


Sheriff's Department SRO's Teaching G.R.E.A.T. To 5th and 6th Graders

Receives Grant from the Good Shepherd Foundation

 The New Hanover County Sheriff's Department recently received a grant from the Good Shepherd Foundation to help fund their G.R.E.A.T. program teaching students to say no to drugs and avoid violence in daily life. The department also honored Carolina Beach resident and business owner Jerry Bigley for his many decades of service providing meals for an annual cook out for the program.
