20th Annual Coastal Classic Celebrity Golf Tournament to support advanced technology in the NHRMC Heart Center

The 20th annual Coastal Classic Celebrity Golf Tournament is right around the corner and this year, all the fun and festivities will help raise money for much-needed equipment in the NHRMC Heart Center.  This year’s event will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 4-5 and all proceeds will help purchase an Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine, a device that can help save the lives of cardiac arrest patients.
“Over the years, the Coastal Classic has raised more than $2.2 million to support New Hanover Regional Medical Center – our community’s hospital,” says 2012 Honorary Chairman Jean Rosenberg.  “Twenty years after I chaired the first Coastal Classic tournament, this tournament has funded an impressive list of extraordinary programs and services for NHRMC.  By raising the money to purchase an ECMO machine, we are ensuring that New Hanover Regional Medical Center will continue to provide excellent health care to our friends and families when they need it.” The Coastal Classic Celebrity Golf Tournament is organized by the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation, a nonprofit, fundraising affiliate of New Hanover Regional Medical Center.  Earlier tournaments raised money for projects including the construction of the Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital, exercise equipment in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Center and wireless technology at Cape Fear Hospital.
“We are so fortunate to have such strong community support for this event,” says 2012 General Chairman Paul Patterson.  “So many people look forward to this event each year because they know they can have a great time and it benefits a great cause.”
This year’s Coastal Classic festivities will kick off on Friday, May 4 with a casual golf outing at the Pete Dye Course at the Country Club at Landfall.  Spots are still available for this event and it is a great way to warm up your swing before the tournament begins on Saturday.  Friday evening will include food stations and entertainment by celebrity guests. A silent auction will be held using new wireless auction technology, BidPal, which allows participants to place bids and track competing bids in real time using an iPod Touch provided to them for the event.
The tournament will begin on Saturday, May 5 at 9 a.m. at the Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall and will conclude with an awards ceremony and dinner at the Landfall Hampton Inn & Suites with entertainment by Nashville recording artists The Mulch Brothers.  There are still some opportunities available to play golf on both days of play.
During Saturday’s tournament, each four person team will be paired with a celebrity player and the cost includes tickets to all of the festivities, hole sponsorship at the tee or green of your choice and recognition in Thank You Notes, the NHRMC Foundation newsletter with a circulation of 9,000.  Golf not your thing?  Social packages are available for those who would like to attend the party, but are not able to participate in the tournament.  Anyone interested in joining the fun should contact Jamie Thompson at 910.815.5042 or visit the website at
