Island Roast Coffee is Pleasure Island's first and only micro coffee roastery. Roast Master Ken Hodges has lived and worked throughout the South and Central America and African coffee growing regions and started roasting his own coffee as a hobby. When it became apparent that his hobby was quickly growing into a business he sought advice and training from some of the top roasters in the U.S. “We roast only the highest quality Arabica coffee beans sourced from the world’s top coffee producing regions. Our coffees are never roasted and stored,” Hodges said. “All coffees are roasted in small batches as they are ordered to ensure you get the best tasting coffee available. We also use Fair Trade, Rain Forest Alliance Certified and Certified Organic coffees whenever possible.”
Island Roast Coffee roasts daily in small batches to ensure optimum quality, freshness and flavor. Most of the coffees are roasted, packaged and shipped within 24 hours of being ordered. Some coffees and espressos are allowed to rest after roasting for 48 to 72 hours prior to shipping to ensure peak flavor. They offer 28 different single origin coffees, organic coffees, blends, espressos and flavored coffees. The Costa Rican coffees are the top selling medium roast coffees, with the Sumatra Mandheling and Ethiopian Harrar being the leading darker roasts. The Mocha Java blend and the African Sunrise are the top selling blends. Hodges favorite blend is the Mocha Java.
The roasting facility is located at 915F North Lake Park Blvd, Carolina Beach.
