Visit Deeply Rooted Gardens to get the answers you need
By: Candace Lookingbill
Dick Stinson has operated a garden center in town for many years. He recently bought another location to help service the southern part of the county. With his daughter, Valerie, Deeply Rooted Gardens was opened in September 2012.
Deeply Rooted Gardens is open year round and offer many types of plants such as perennials, annuals, eatables, shrubs and plants for each season. They continue to improve the center to what the community needs or wants. They have lots of ideas and want to create new phases to the garden to educate and give customers ideas for their own gardens.
They are working on birding and water gardens now. With part of the land they want to create an example of a tropical garden, along with trails so the customers can walk around and view the garden.
Valerie will help you plan out your gardens, she will help you figure out what plants are right for the area you want to plant. She also has a landscape designer that comes in and will design your garden. If you are a porch gardener, she will assist you with plants that will grow in the area you live in. She is educated in medicinal plants along with culinary herbs and will be able to assist in creating herb gardens. Valerie asks for patience as they are moving forward every day, and is open for suggestions. She is also looking for local artists to vend their crafts at the center; she is interested in anything beachy or having to do with gardens.
Deeply Rooted Gardens is at 6209 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, and is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. For information or questions, call 910-399-8035, email deeplyrootednc@ gmail.com, visit www.deeplyrootedgardens.com or follow them on Facebook.
