“Sojourner” Watercolor Exhibit

Carolina Beach, NC – Mykel ‘s latest exhibit, Sojourner, will be featured during February in Artful Living Group’s Upstairs Gallery.  As the title implies, this collection is a melding of Mykel’s life-journey and, for him, showing this work at Artful Living Group is like a homecoming.
Last year Mykel moved from San Francisco to Carolina Beach to pursue his arts and unite with an old friend.  After settling in, one of the first stops on his new adventure was Artful Living Group.  “The owners, Chris Higgins and Mo Linquist, pretty much wrapped their arms around me to welcome me to the island.” said Mykel.  “They provided guidance and encouragement for me to immerse into Wilmington’s artists community, which I did.” Soon he moved to Wilmington and within a few months had his first solo show at Acme Art Studios entitled “Love, Gravity & Pigment”. The central focus of the exhibit was an iron heart shaped chandelier that dripped colorful candle wax on a canvas, representing the hearts that can often be found in Mykel’s paintings.   However, three weeks after the show Mykel fell ill to a heart attack and subsequent bypass surgery. The watercolor paintings in the Sojourner exhibit are rich in color with lyrical imagery from the many places Mykel has traveled both physically and spiritually.  “Having a life altering event can help you see more clearly and through these paintings I have tried to paint the photographs in my mind of special places.”
“The word, Sojourner, depicts a traveler or a seeker who resides in any one place for only a brief period of time.  We are all seekers of something, maybe to keep up with the rapidly digitalized world, maybe to discover comfort, love, knowledge or success.  Our environment is changing around us. Technology is evolving along with our bodies and aspirations. As we search for meaning in our lives we find inevitably some things get left behind. Flow and flux become welcomed companions along this journey...so pack light and enjoy!” -  Mykel
Opening reception will be held February 6th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Artful Living Group, 112 Cape Fear Blvd, and Carolina Beach.  This is a wonderful opportunity to hear Mykel’s stories and inspirations.  The exhibit will be up throughout February.
Enabling people to experience the creative process where artists can share their inspiration and work enhances Artful Living Group’s objective of “bringing affordable fun functional art to the public and the public to great artists”.
Artful Living Group is located on Carolina Beach and is open throughout the year.  For more information this event and others, call 910.458.7822 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (112 Cape Fear Blvd, Carolina Beach, NC).
