Pleasure Island Dance Company prepares for 2014

Pleasure Island Dance Company closed out 2013 with a bang, and is welcoming 2014 with open arms and enthusiasm. Their farewell to 2013 was with the “Make A Wish,” which a charity dance competition is held at Roland Grise. PIDC joined forces with A Leap Above Dance Studio to raise more than $8,000 for this worthy cause. The dancers loved the idea of helping terminally ill children reach their dreams through performing.
Then shortly after the New Year, PIDC took 14 participants and their families to Washington, DC for the national JUMP Dance Convention. PIDC dancers competed and participated in the convention classes with famous choreographers all weekend. A VIP scholarship was awarded to Tosh Whitley, who was also invited to JUMP’s Nationals in Las Vegas. Now the dance company is working hard for our upcoming competitions in Supply, NC. They will be  attending the following: Marvonna on March  15 and 16; Nexstar from March 28 through 30; Celebration on April 26 and 27; Star Systems from May 2 through 4; and Showstoppers in Myrtle Beach, SC from May 9 through11.
And, Pleasure Island Dance Company would like to extend an invitation to any and all from the Island, especially to anyone thinking of joining the competition team next year, to come and support them. This gives you the opportunity to see what the competition team has worked for through practice and the rewarding results.
Next on the list of big dates for the studio are the auditions for the Company Competition Team. Auditions will be held at the studio June 1. Everyone who auditions will have a spot on the team and then will be invited to participate in the dances that the director, Marie Whitley, feels appropriate for the particular child, such as a group number, duet or solo. The only dance that is mandatory for competition is the large group production number, which everyone will be invited into. If anyone has any questions regarding the competition team, please contact them.
Over the summer they will be putting on the production of Annie. Auditions for that will be June 14 at PIDC. All who audition will be invited to perform in the production.
Pleasure Island Dance Company is excited to see what their second year in a real studio will hold for them. So far they are expanding, and they are hungry to grow to be their personal best.
