Sal Doria has recently opened Casa Matta, bringing to the people of Pleasure Island authentic Italian cuisine and Brooklyn Sal’s Famous Pizza. When asked, Sal said he felt that there was a need for another Italian restaurant on the island. This location is bigger and also has plenty of parking for his customer. He said at the age 12 he began working in a pizza shop, hence, bringing to his customer more than 50 years of experience in cooking.
The food at Casa Matta is always freshly prepared and made to order. “Quite simply, it is some of the best Italian food you'll find this side of the Mississippi, and below the Mason Dixon. How can we be so sure? All of our entree recipes have been in the family for years, dating back to when Mama Doria brought her family over from Naples, Italy.”
His pizzas come in two sizes, small (14-inch) and large (18-inch) and hand tossed some of the toppings include homemade meatballs, fresh tomatoes, pepperoni and more. He also offers New York brick oven pizzas, classic Margherita which is homemade mozzarella, fresh basil, fresh tomato, extra virgin olive oil; Bianco Cello that is the homemade mozzarella, ricotta, fresh rosemary, garlic, extra virgin olive oil; and his famous Brooklyn Sal Supreme that is you name it, you got it.
The menu continues with stombollis, calzones and hot and cold subs. The dinner menu continues with Italian favorites. The pasta dinners include homemade lasagna, eggplant parmigiana, spaghetti and meatballs, cappelini Bolognese.  Let’s continue to entrees veal or chicken Franchese, veal Marsala, salmon al grilia, linguine con vongole.
Music is playing throughout the restaurant and yes, outside too. Doria also offers entertainment with live bands, Frank Sinatra impersonator and many surprises yet to come. He will be holding a grand opening event sometime in August. He will be doing a fundraiser for Wounded Warriors, Step Up to Soldiers and cancer and the proceeds will be donated to these organizations. He will be adding some flat screen televisions and projector to the bar area and will obtain a sports package for the sport enthusiast to be able to enjoy the games they love to watch. This should happen around the time the World Series and football begin.
