Four years ago Donnie Boltz and his wife, Cathy, decided to expand the wholesale seafood distributing business by adding a restaurant, Fish Bites. With his experience and knowledge of commercial fishing he knows quality seafood and that carries through to the restaurant.
Their specialty is offering the best quality seafood available in the area. They have a large variety of fresh seafood daily, lobsters from Maine, oysters, fresh fish, clams, crab legs, salmon and sword fish to name a few. His chefs are great at preparation; they develop unique items just for Fish Bites. They offer their version of filet mignon, which is fresh yellow fin tuna wrapped with bacon perfectly seared with their own special spices and secret sauce. An appetizer they offer is a shrimp bomb which is shrimp wrapped in apple wood smoked bacon with jalapeno pepper jack cheese deep fried in beer batter. One of the top sellers at the restaurant is their stuff flounder, which starts with fresh local flounder and stuffed with their mixture of crab meat, shrimp and scallops covered in lobster sauce. Soups are made from scratch, offered is lobster bisque, old-style New England clam chowder made with fresh clams. And their version of Oyster Rockefeller, which is made from fresh spices, fresh spinach sautéed simmered in cheese sauce and then oysters added at the end of preparation.
Not only is the seafood fresh, all of the vegetables are also fresh, and the dishes are made to order, so the customers have the freshest possible meal. Donnie will come into the dining area with a whole fish to show the customers what they will be eating that evening. The desserts are even made fresh daily right there. The creative flavors of the cheese cakes also come from Donnie.
They also offer the chef’s special every day, these specials are so creative.
They are known for their creations and specialties. There is the catch of the day which is a choice of the market fresh fish grilled, pan seared, broiled or blackened whichever way you want it prepared.
Every day has a theme, for instance, Thursday is pick your own lobster, they offer a brunch on Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., some of the menu items are several types of omelets, shrimp and grits, shrimp and crab cake Benedict with lobster hollandaise and fresh fruits.
As mentioned earlier they will be celebrating their four year anniversary on Sunday, July 28. There will be $4 specials, from some of the appetizer, Bloody Marys, mimosas and well drinks there will also be give aways throughout the day.
They also offer other food such as chicken tenders, several varieties of salads, stuffed chicken, rib eye, pasta, burgers and tacos. The Boltzes went into the restaurant with the idea of it becoming a local favorite place to come, and with their repeat customers, and the customers’ support that is what Fish Bites has become. It may not be in a great location, but their customers keep coming back. The Boltzes pride themselves in the quality of food they offer in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. They thank everyone who has supported them and will continue to serve them the quality of food that they continue to come back and expect to have. Some of their regulars live out of town; they travel from Charlotte, Raleigh, Wallace and all over. Their customers are very important to them and strive to make their dining is the best they can offer.
They have recently remodeled the interior, there is a specialty floor, a customer who is a glass blower has created some unique lamp shades for the dining area, and they have added booths and metal panels to the wall. This added a cozy, casual atmosphere. One wall is a gallery of some of their customers’ photos.
