Two years ago, two brothers started a business venture together, Brothers in Arms Pawn in the Myrtle Grove area. Scott and Chris Chadwick, both city firemen, and their family have lived in the area their entire lives, which gives them the insight as to what people need and want in the area.
Before they opened the store, they researched other stores to help get a sense of what people wanted. They sell a variety of items. If you are that hands-on repair person, there are power and hand tools, if you hunt, they have bows and rifles, and there is a large selection of jewelry from costume, silver to the more expensive pieces; there are surf boards, movies, laptops, instruments just a little bit of everything is available to buy, even some of those hard to find items.
They also buy silver and gold pieces and they also carry retail items, such as mace, ammunition, guitar strings, picks and SD cards. Another service that is provided is gun repair and cleaning. And, they are registered as a Federal Firearms Licensee.
So what happens when you pawn an item? You bring an item in, they will look up the item and see what it is worth, they will offer you an amount of money for the item, you choose whether you want to accept the money offered, if you choose to accept, the item is held for a certain length of time then you would come back and pay the money back along with interest and get your item back. You can also just sell the item to them out right, if you no longer want the item.
Brothers in Arms offer about a quarter of what the item is worth if you are there to pawn the item, if you are there to sell the item they offer a third of what it is worth.
The normal hold time is 90 days, but, they will also work with you if you need more time in getting your item back; as long as you come in and pay the interest on the amount given at the time of the loan. The Chadwicks try to make it as easy and fair as possible in their dealings.
They are straight up and are willing to negotiate. Come in and check for yourself, whether it is to pawn an item, sell an item or buy something that they have to offer.
