The building was built in 1946 and was the Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church, and in 1998 brothers, Bill and Bob Kramer established Deck House Casual Dining as the sister restaurant to their Market Street Casual Dining. The chef, Han Li, has been preparing the food since its conception.
Victoria Fernandez, general manager, enjoys the stories from the former congregation while they are now dining at the restaurant. She said she feels like everyone that dines at the restaurant is part of a large family. Deck House offers seafood and traditional American cuisine. Seafood is local, the steaks are hand-cut, and also on the menu are prime rib and a variety of pasta dishes. A popular dish is the almond encrusted salmon served with lemon beurre blanc sauce, other dishes are fresh grouper served with a topping of crab meat, asparagus and lobster cream sauce, New Orleans-style shrimp and grits, and seafood pasta which is sautéed shrimp and scallops with asparagus, mushrooms and tomatoes in a roasted lobster cream sauce over penne pasta.
Also offered is grouper chowder and the owners’ specialty Manhattan clam chowder. Some items on the a la carte menu include lobster tail, side of crab legs, and side of scallops, grouper served grilled, blackened or broiled.
They have a spacious full service bar and offer wine, beer and cocktails. Featured every Thursday is $3 North Carolina Craft Beer night. To highlight the craft beers offered in North Carolina. The end of the summer season is fast approaching and after Labor Day the off-season hours will begin. Fernandez will be offering contests and give-a-ways through their Facebook page. They will also begin serving seasonal cocktails like the Pumpkin Delish cocktail and the traditional sangria but made with North Carolina blackberry wine. There will also prime rib meal specials.
And, also coming back for the customers to enjoy and participate in is the Murder Mystery Night. This special event will be held on Monday night. Tickets are prepaid only. It is something fun to do while enjoying your diner and trying to figure out this who-done-it mystery, you will just never know what will happen during this time of suspense. Each show has a different theme and plot. The troupe also gives away prizes during the show.
