Artful Living Group has been opened for three summers in the heart of Carolina Beach. The three talented owners are Chris Higgins who is a silversmith and founder of Fishbone Designs and she designs and creates all of the pieces in the collection, Mo Linquist who is a designer and specializes in Feng Shui designs brings her Person Place Design and Consulting, and Janet Knott who runs the farmers market and brings her marketing skills. Her experience is working with several mediums such as acrylics, fabrics and calligraphy
They offer wearable art, home décor and garden art in an innovative art center. This is a place for people to shop for items that are unique plus the availability to take art classes.
The center is based upon a sustainable business model supporting artists through promotion of the value and appreciation of art. They have more than 250 artists from the region and around country offering unique, functional and quality artwork priced for the consumer. Their objective is to give the people affordable and original art to surround themselves.
Some of the featured artists are Alexandra Morse, Bob Fowler, Denise J. Bramley, Kristina Bell, Mike Bryand and Sam Shelby. If you are a prospective artist you can contact the Artful Living Group through their website or call them so you can show your works. The retail shop is consignment-based, juried and the number of artists in a particular medium is limited to give artists the greatest opportunity to prosper. Artful Living Group reviews the art to make sure it works for everybody. The center adds new pieces almost daily to create a changing shopping experience. And the group also offers varying price ranges for shoppers of all budgets.
Going with the theme of artisans and handmade items, there is a selection of products from Carolina Farmin, a local store in downtown Wilmington that only carries North Carolina foods. The artists will also work with the customer, if you like the piece but the color is not what you are looking for, the size is either too big or too small, and they will accommodate your needs, to make the piece what you want.
In addition to the retail store there are also studios on the second floor of the building. There you will find working artist studios and you can watch the artists while they are creating. Sue Linquist has her studio on the second floor. She specializes in wedding, boudoir and baby photography.
There is also a main studio where each month they have a featured artist and display their works and on the first Thursday of each month they hold a reception so you can meet the artist of the month. You will also find the works of Gabriel Lehman on the second.
Artful Living Group offers creative classes, workshops, exhibits and other events. The featured artist will demonstrate their specialty. There are art classes available like drawing for the beginner to learning a new technique of art. They also offer art projects for a birthday, girls’ night out, bring your own wine, and will customize classes to your needs. Classes cost $25 to $45 and the price includes materials to complete your art project. Classes are normally two to four hours.
