Spotlight On Coastal Cuisine: Pop’s serving daily specials and homemade soups

Amy Webster and Patrick Puffpaff owners of the new Pop’s Diner, is gearing up for the cooler weather. This week she began her daily specials and homemade soups and chili.
They will also offer special features. Such as Wednesday night will be Family Night beginning at 4 p.m. all children under the age of 10 will eat free. Thursday will be Military Discount Day; those who are in the military will receive a discount. It is open seven days a week offering a wide-range of menu items.
The menu includes everything from burgers, hot dogs, fresh seafood, brisket and fried Twinkies to name a few. They serve the highest quality of fresh and homemade ingredients. Pop’s is the home of the foot-long hot dog. The burgers are fresh and hand-patted and are not frozen. The beef brisket sandwich is the best in the area. The beef brisket sandwich is served with pepper jack cheese, homemade chipotle barbecue sauce and slaw on Texas toast and is $5.95.
Also available is their version of chicken and waffles, which is six hand-cut, battered and golden fried chicken tenders, deep-fried Belgium waffles, served with maple syrup and butter. The crab cake offers two plump, homemade blue crab crab cakes served with fried sweet corn. And, of course the shrimp po’ boy is still available, which is made of plump friend shrimp, bacon, pepperjack cheese, slaw with your choice of tartar, cocktail or Pat’s spicy sauce.
The potato salad, macaroni salad and cole slaw are made fresh daily. And, they make their own pink lemonade and fresh-brewed Southern sweet tea. On the side items include deep-fried corn-on-the-cob, sweet potato fries, and hushpuppies to nachos.
The dessert menu also offers up homemade with 15 desserts to choose from and are available every day. In addition to the fried Oreos and Twinkies, they make a Heath Bar pie which is vanilla ice cream on a graham cracker crust topped with caramel and crushed Heath bar. Pop’s Diner is a family-oriented diner, you will not find a television, but, you will hear great oldies but goody music of the past. In addition to the booths, there are three large tables that will seat eight. They also offer take-out and deliveries. Having a game day, need some wings? Call Pop’s. You can order from 10 to 50 wings slathered in one of their homemade sauces, call for prices.
They use shortening frying oil which is gluten free and peanut allergy free. They are certified in ServSafe and have a grade of 98.5 for sanitation. The full menu and desserts are available until closing.
Pop’s Diner is at 104 N. Lake Park Blvd., Carolina Beach. The diner opens at 11 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, 11 p.m. on Thursday and at 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and it is open year round.
