RALEIGH, N.C. : May 20, 2013 - Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Sinclair Auvant Parker, 45, of 6700 McCalley Court, Wilmington; he was charged with one count of insurance fraud and two counts each of obtaining property by false pretense and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that Parker submitted four insurance claims with fraudulent invoices for property damage he claimed was the result of a June 2012 vehicle accident in Buncombe County. Allstate Insurance Company paid Parker $6,839.26 for two of the claims; Parker is accused of attempting to obtain an additional $12,181.51 through the two other allegedly fraudulent claims.
Parker was arrested on May 17 in Pender County where he was held under a $5,000 secured bond.
The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud. Since Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin took office in 2009, criminal investigators have received more than 16,800 complaints, resulting in 720 arrests and 380 criminal convictions. These efforts have delivered more than $50 million in restitution and recoveries for victims.
