NEW HANOVER CTY - New Hanover County Emergency Management and 911 Communications is partnering with New Hanover County Schools to extend school lockdown notifications via Twitter.
School lockdown notifications will be posted to the Twitter account located at @NHC911Lockdown (www.twitter.com/NHC911Lockdown) through an automated process with the County’s computer aided dispatch system.
"This service will enhance our notification ability to people who are near a public school of the lockdown,” said Warren Lee, New Hanover County’s Emergency Management Director. “Although most lockdown scenarios are precautionary, we’ve received requests from private schools and daycares asking to be notified.”
To receive school lockdown notifications, Twitter users may follow @NHC911Lockdown, and non-Twitter users may text ‘follow @NHC911Lockdown’ to 40404. Subscribers will receive a ‘cancel’ notification when officials have lifted the lockdown. Standard text messaging and/or data rates may apply. The new Twitter account joins @NHC911, which provides real time updates on traffic related incidents.
The County is committed to advancing its mission and vision through superior public health, safety and education.
