Crews working for the North Carolina Department of Transportation worked quickly last week to return Lake Park Blvd to a four-lane road.
In a few days they ground up the road, resurfaced it and painted a four-lane traffic pattern. That replaces the previous Road Diet that reduced the four-lane road to two lanes with a center turn lane and bike paths on either side behind diagonally park cars. The Road Diet led to traffic congestion backed up in both directions sometimes all the way to neighboring Kure Beach. Council eventually voted to undo the diet.
