CAROLINA BEACH - The Carolina Beach Fire Department hosted a spaghetti dinner and educational field trip for kindergarten students from Bethany Elementary School in Rockingham County last week.
For 22 years students and their parents have visited Carolina Beach in the spring to learn about fire safety, visit the aquarium and take part in many educational activities.
The Fire Department planned an evening of festivities and food for the kindergarten and first grade classes and their parents to teach them about fire safety and to allow them to see the fire trucks and other equipment up close. This is an annual event that is looked forward to by both the students and the volunteers.
The children were shown the fire trucks and other safety equipment and had the chance to ask the firemen questions about fire safety.
The children, the firemen, and the children’s parents all seemed to be enjoying the dinner and activities during the hands-on demonstrations.
After dinner and the hands-on demonstrations, the Carolina Beach Fire Department hosted an interactive show that featured Sparky the firedog and the Carolina Fire Crew.
The Carolina Fire Crew is a part of the New Hanover County Fire & Rescue team; they provided educational shows to the community. The show included a variety of singing and dancing.
The songs taught the children important fire safety information.
They talked about how and when to Stop, Drop, and Roll. The children were also taught the difference between a good and bad fire, the proper uses, and what to do in case of an emergency.
