CAROLINA BEACH - Greetings, from the Carolina Beach Police Department! We would like to express to all Citizens and visitors to our island during the coming season that we hope that you have a safe and fun filled summer!
With that being said, we would like everyone to know that new High Visibility crosswalks have been installed at the following locations: Hamlet Avenue, Atlanta Avenue, Tennessee Avenue, Ocean Boulevard, and Alabama Avenue. The high Visibility crosswalk features were installed to promote safer pedestrian travel across Lake Park Boulevard to the Beach. With these new cross walks in place we would like everyone to understand the law regarding them. When pedestrians are entering the high visibility crosswalk areas, it is the responsibility of the motorist to yield to that pedestrian and allow them to cross Lake Park Boulevard. Likewise, pedestrians must act responsibly to determine if that motorist is going to yield for them when crossing. The Town of Carolina Beach would like to express their appreciation to the North Carolina Department of Transportation for the installation of these high visibility crosswalks in our community.
We would also ask that everyone please remember to lock their vehicle doors. Most of the car break-ins are the result of the drivers not locking their car doors. Over the past several years we have noticed that very few vehicles are actually break-ins by force. They now typically like to just walk down the street looking for the unlocked cars.
