KURE BEACH - Expect traffic delays in Kure Beach this coming Saturday morning June 2. The Town is advising residents that due to the Kure Beach Double Sprint Triathlon, "All residents should expect traffic congestion and significant delays on Fort Fisher Blvd., and ‘K’ Ave. Dow Rd. will be shut down from 5am-9am. The event will last untill 11am," said Town Building Inspector John Batson. The event is expected to draw around 500 participants.
That same morning, the Carolina Beach Parks and Recreation Department will be holding their 18th Annual Youth Pier Fishing Tournament at the Kure Beach Pier on K Ave. That event is open to children ages 5 - 15. Registration is from 6:00 am - 8:00 am. The tournament is from 7:00am - 10:00 am. The first 100 kids without a fishing pole will receive a rod and reel. The first 150 kids will receive a free tournament t-shirt and be given free bait while it lasts. The awards ceremony will follow the tournament. The entry fee is $2.00 plus a donation of at least two canned food items.
Kure Beach Police Chief Dennis Cooper said the Town Council approved the Triathlon event earlier this year. He said residents should expect traffic delays. He said, "It's going to be tough getting around" that morning so residents should plan accordingly in order to avoid unexpected delays.
Also on Saturday the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce will hold their 27th Annual Beach Music Festival on the beach at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk.
The festival begins at 11AM. To learn more about these events, visit www.townofkurebeach.org and www.carolinabeach.org
