New Hanover Names New Assistant County Manager

NEW HANOVER CTY - After coordinating a nationwide recruitment and screening process of highly qualified candidates, incoming County Manager Chris Coudriet, currently serving as Assistant County Manager, has named Tim Burgess as Assistant County Manager.  Mr. Burgess is the second assistant appointed and follows the May appointment of Avril Pinder.
“We’re pleased to have Tim join the County’s management team,” Coudriet said. “Tim quickly emerged for obvious reasons from a pool of nearly 200 applicants and I feel he’s not only an excellent choice, but the right choice for our organization.  He brings to New Hanover County a strong commitment to public service, significant leadership experience and practical skills that will complement our strategic direction.”
Burgess, a 12-year local government veteran with extensive experience in organizational design, fiscal management and community planning, has served in the capacity of town manager, interim county manager, and is currently serving as assistant county manager in Alamance County, North Carolina. He will begin his new duties with New Hanover County July 10, 2012.
As Assistant County Manager, Burgess will be part of the County’s senior executive leadership team with County Manager Chris Coudriet and Assistant County Manager Avril Pinder.  The team works closely with the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners to carry out the goals and strategic priorities of the board. Burgess succeeds Chris Coudriet, who assumes the role of county manager June 30.
Burgess and his wife, Joy, have one daughter; Emily Adair, age 11.
Burgess said he was honored to be selected as assistant manager, and looks forward to the challenges ahead. “My family and I are very excited about the opportunity to serve New Hanover County,” said Burgess. “I look forward to building solid relationships and
determining how and where I can add the greatest value to an extraordinary team of professionals.”
Burgess holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Campbell University in Business Administration
and a law degree from Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama.
