New Hanover County Hires First Public Affairs Manager

NEW HANOVER CTY - New Hanover County announces the hiring of Carey Disney Ricks as the County’s first Public Affairs Manager, filling a key leadership role tasked with managing the County’s government relations and marketing strategies, including public information and media production.
“An integral part of the County’s strategic plan is our commitment to community outreach and brand management strategies.” said Chris Coudriet, New Hanover County Manager. “I’m confident Carey’s fresh perspective, strong background in public affairs and project management as well as her dedication to public service will enhance our communication objectives and strategic focus areas.”
Carey Disney Ricks, a Wilmington native, has extensive community and regulatory experience in southeastern North Carolina and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in Environmental Science and Biology.   She will join the County July 30, transitioning from the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority, where she has served as Chief Communications Officer since 2008.
Ms. Ricks was a member of the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority's first management team at consolidation in 2008. Serving as the Public Information Officer then Chief Communications Officer she oversaw public affairs and communication, served as the liaison with community and regional stakeholders, and was an integral part of various planning, development and civic initiatives.
"Ms. Ricks has been an essential member of the management team. From day one she has made and continues to make significant contributions toward the ongoing success of the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority. I am confident she will provide the same level of professionalism in her new role with New Hanover County." said Authority CEO Matt Jordan.
Board Chairman Jim Quinn adds "I've had the opportunity to work with Carey for about a dozen years as she has served this community.  She's gathered momentum and experience in each professional step she has taken, and in working with her at the Authority I've witnessed and appreciate her true abilities and dedication. I give her a great deal of credit for introducing the community to the positive attributes and achievements of the Authority even through some otherwise difficult times. Her talents at the Authority will be missed but will be an asset to the region in her position with the County."
“I am very grateful for and excited to be given this opportunity to be a part of the County’s Executive Leadership team and serve in such an important position in my hometown.” said Ricks.  “I look forward to working for the citizens and leadership of New Hanover County to the best of my ability.”
New Hanover County is committed to advancing its mission and vision through effective county management.
