Carolina Beach Police Beat: CBES Students Write and Draw

By STEVE STANTON
Carolina Beach Police Advisory Cmt.

CAROLINA BEACH - Once Again, as the second half of the school year begins, the students at Carolina Beach Elementary School (CBES) will be able to participate in a theme based writing and art competition being sponsored by the Carolina Beach Police Department (CBPD) and its Police Advisory Committee (CBPAC).
The themes selected this year are drawing a CBPD officer with a vehicle or dog or writing on the subject, “If I Were the Carolina Beach Police Chief”.
Teachers are always seeking ways to hone the skills of their students and this competition will provide such an opportunity while additionally giving them a chance to create a civics lesson.  Students participating will be grouped into two categories, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders and 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.  The younger students will be developing the art work while the upper class students will be composing on the writing theme.  The submissions will all be judged by the CBPD and the CBPAC.  As in past years, Target Department Stores generously will be providing the selected winners each with a $25 gift certificate.  Winners from each category will have their winning entries published in the Island Gazette.
The writing competition is just one of several efforts that the CBPD and CBPAC undertake to maintain a cooperative working relationship with the school and to enhance the relationship between police efforts in Carolina Beach and the youth of our Town.
Island Gazette readers can anticipate reading the results of the writing competition in March.  The CBPD and CBPAC look forward to maintaining their good relationship with the CBES and sponsoring other endeavors.
The CB Police Advisory Committee will be conducting its next meeting on Monday, February 4th, 2013 at 7 PM in the CBPD Training Room, located at the rear of Town Hall.  Residents are invited to bring their concerns to the meeting.
