CB Police Bust Gambling Operation; Drug Bust Leads To High Speed Chase

CAROLINA BEACH - It was a busy week for the Carolina Beach Police Department. They busted a gambling operation in a condo near Snow's Cut Bridge and in a separate case caught a drug deal going down which led to a high-speed motorcycle chase ending near the Carolina Beach Lake.
According to Carolina Beach Police Detective Scott Hettinger, on Friday May 3, detectives with the Carolina Beach and Kure Beach Police Departments conducted a search warrant on 625 Spencer Farlow Dr. Unit 21 in the Paradise Cove condo complex in reference to an illegal gambling operation being conducted at the residence. Detective's executed the search warrant and located four "Pot-of-Gold" machines, over three thousand dollars in cash, Oxycodone narcotics, Alprazolam pills, marijuana, and a 9mm pistol. 
Detectives arrested Stan Andrews Dreibelis and Robert Christian  Fleck.
Fleck, born March 2, 1978, was charged with "gambling  possessing/operating gaming device".
Dreibelbis, born October 8, 1978, was charged with, "gambling possess/operate gambling device". Both listed their address as 625 Spencer Farlow Dr. Unit#21, Carolina Beach,NC 28428.
In a separate case, on Thursday May  2, 2013 Detectives with the Carolina Beach and Kure Beach Police Department involved in a month long investigation observed Rodney Smith of 1002 S.6th St.
According to police reports, Carolina Beach Police Department watched a hand to hand drug transaction in the parking lot of the Food Lion on North Lake Park Blvd near Snow's Cut Bridge.
A detective attempted to stop Smith who was riding a moped in the parking lot.  Smith refused to stop and traveled south on N. Lake Park Blvd. 
Smith turned through the back streets and back on the main road multiple times sometimes traveling in excess of 55 miles per hour. 
Smith then entered the walkway around the lake and drove around to the other side getting off at Lake Drive where he was placed under arrest.
Detective's then observed the moped was actually a 150cc motorcycle.
Smith was transported to the police department for processing and Detective's continued the investigation arriving at 216 Harper Ave. 
Detective's conducted a search of the residence and located a pistol, cash, 270 Oxycodone pills, 60 Alprazolam pills, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
Both subjects were transported to the New Hanover County Jail on bond.  First appearances were set for May 3, 2013 at the New Hanover County Courthouse.
James Mitchell Furr, born September 1, 1969, of 216 Harper Avenue in Carolina Beach was charged with Possession with intent to manufacture, sale, and distribute a Schedule II controlled substance.
He was also charged with "Sell/Deliver a Schedule II" controlled substance and, "Maintaining a Dwelling for Use/Sale of" a controlled substance. His bond was set at $5,000 secured.
The second subject arrested was Rodney Richard Smith, born March 27, 1969, living at an address of 1002 6th St. in Carolina Beach. He was charged with "Sell/Deliver a Schedule II" controlled substance and Possession with intent to manufacture, sale, and distribute a Schedule II controlled substance. He was also charged with, "Maintain a Vehicle for the Use/Sale of" a controlled substance and, "Flea to Elude Arrest in a Motor Vehicle". His bond was set at $10,000 secured.
