Vehicle Snaps Utility Pole In Half Monday Morning

A Jeep crossed several lanes Monday morning, September 2nd, colliding with a utility pole and snapping the pole in half. Power was out in the area but was restored just before 10AM.

CAROLINA BEACH - A 1993 Jeep collided with a utility pole on North Lake Park Blvd in Carolina Beach Monday morning, September 2, just after 7AM.
According to the police investigation, the vehicle was traveling northbound on North Lake Park Blvd. During that time the vehicle merged to the left across the centerline and into oncoming traffic.
According to the police report, "Then crossed both south bound lanes before running off the roadway and colliding with a power pole." The accident occurred at 1100 North Lake Park Blvd just south of Town Hall and the Police Station.
According to police, the driver, Phillip Ucci, Jr. of Racine Drive in Wilmington, North Carolina, stated, "He did not remember "passing out" or the accident which indicated he fell asleep while driving."
The report states Ucci, "Was found to be impaired by alcohol and was arrested for driving while impaired and left of center." The police report shows "alcohol suspected" and a test was issued with the results listed as "2 / .140".
Crews from Duke Energy arrived on the scene a little after 9AM and quickly began working to replace the utility pole and restore service to the area.
