CAROLINA BEACH - A 29-foot sport boat capsized around 12:30PM three miles off Carolina Beach on Saturday leaving two men in the water. Ronald Savoy swam to shore for three hours eventually coming onto the beach in Freeman Park just before 3PM. The body of Ronnie Loftis of Carolina Beach was recovered around 5PM.
The Wilmington Police Sable helicopter, Carolina Beach Police, New Hanover County Sheriff's Department and County Fire Department assisted in the search.
After a few hours the Wilmington Police Sable helicopter crew spotted the boat which was still running miles off shore.
Carolina Beach Police Chief Harry Humphries said the Sable helicopter located Loftis body and directed the Wilmington Fire Department's boat to the area.
